Adesuwa McCalla is extensively educated, trained and experienced in the world of television and film. She has worked for BBC, ITV, Nickelodeon-Nick@Nite and MTV in various capacities. As a Programming Associate for The WB Network, Adesuwa was notably responsible for acclaimed shows Angel, Smallville and Grounded for Life.
Bill Duke, Actor/Writer/Director extraordinaire, saw her talent to identify and foster marketable projects, and entrusted her with the development of many of his ventures. Adesuwa is currently steering her most prolific and adventurous undertaking to date, MetaMorphic Entertainment. MetaMorphic is a literary management firm representing writers & directors of television and film. Her clients are presently staffed on The Client List, The New Normal, and Bones to name a few. Most recently, several of her clients have sold TV pitches to various studios in both comedy and drama.
Adesuwa spoke about her childhood in the UK and her interest in the arts with strong support from her mother. She received a full scholarship to Howard University in Washington D.C. where she met Bill Duke who served as the first endowed Chair in Film /Media. Upon graduation. Upon meeting Mr. Duke he said her greatest attribute was her tenacity.
After graduation she worked at Nick at Nite/Nickelodeon television and Warner Brothers Studio. She spoke about the need to understand the Ratings (Nielson Ratings) systems and how that drives content, builds the line up of shows and also advertising dollars.
She recommends that one learns every facet so that you know what everyone does, and you are never without a job!
